Le monde d'une Brunette

The world of a brunette: filled with trips, design, food, photos, music, citylife, colours. A world of likes, where dislikes don't exist. I share my handpicked tips of places to eat, drink and stay, from personal experiences only. Usually with own pictures, sometimes from others I find on the web. Based in Amsterdam. Has passport, will travel.

Cafe Van Mechelen, Sloterkade, Amsterdam, the NetherlandsFavourite new spot in my own neighborhood!A restored garage with an industrial flair but with warm service. And also, quite big for Amsterdam. With its inspiration from Belgian beer houses, you can choose so many different kinds of Belgian beers.
Foodwise; They serve an interesting and attractive lunch and dinner menu, but are also open for breakfast.Open from 9 till late at night: a great spot for families, pubgoers, beer-enthusiasts and coffee lovers.  View high resolution

Le Jardin Bohemien, Burgstraat 19, Ghent, Belgium

Looking for a great breakfast or lunch surrounded by designer vintage furniture? Then this is the place for you. A lovely place where you can still eat breakfast with a proper croissant at 1 in the afternoon.

Don’t forget to visit the toilet as the sink and tap are just wonderful industrial touches to this great building.

Pakhuis, Schuurkenstraat 4, Ghent, BelgiumA small alley which leads to an enormous old warehouse. Ghent is full of surprises. This old warehouse is renovated to a very gorgeous industrial, Parisian style bistro (like an old trainstation almost), called Het Pakhuis. It is one of the most well-known restaurants in this city. With a menu comprising of Belgian and French favorites, there is much to choose from. Seafood to Waterzooi (like a bouillabaisse but with chicken) to steak to a whole ham. So come with a lovely date or group of family/friends and enjoy the food, surroundings and the Belgian beers. View high resolution

Charme-hotel Hancelot, Vijfwindgatenstraat, Ghent, BelgiumWhen the name of the hotel already has the word charm in it, you have high expectations. And well, this lovely place has charm in abundance. With a welcome drink by the fire place, you immediately feel at home. The building is an old mansion from 1840 and is kept with great eye for detail. The huge wooden staircase gives you the feeling of being lord and lady of the manor, even if it is just for the weekend. With a sweet lady who serves you breakfast every morning (or have it served in your room), there isn’t much to wish for. Café Restaurant Amsterdam, Watertorenplein 6, AmsterdamLooking for a nice place to eat with a group of family or friends? This is the place in Amsterdam’s Westerpark area.An old engine reminds you of the former purpose of this building. The acoustic is not bad for such a big space. Another bonus, with a larger group you can still eat a la carte and not from a fixed menu, which is always nice.
With a large terrace outside that is completely windproof, you can catch the first rays of sun in early spring.
